Privacy Policy

Introduction

Finance.vet LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates Finance.vet, an educational financial planning platform for U.S. veterans, military retirees, and military-connected families. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use Finance.vet.

By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Finance.vet.

Information we collect

We collect information you provide and information generated by your use of the platform:

  • Account information — email address and authentication credentials managed through our identity provider (Supabase Auth). Login.gov may be offered as a sign-in option.
  • Planning profile — retirement goals, account balances, income, tax assumptions, family details, and other inputs you enter for projections.
  • Imported documents — files you upload (for example, SSA statements, VA disability letters, mortgage statements) and parsed summaries we store to populate your plan.
  • Linked financial accounts — when you opt in via Plaid Link, we receive account metadata, balances, investment holdings, and liability details from institutions you select. We never store your online banking username or password.
  • Digital Vault — documents you choose to store in the platform.
  • Advocate coordination — if you work with an advocate, case notes and tasks may be visible to you and your assigned advocate.
  • Usage and technical data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) and error diagnostics from our hosting provider.

How we use information

We use your information to:

  • Provide planning tools, projections, and account dashboards
  • Sync linked account balances and holdings into your plan when you request it
  • Enable advocate support and care coordination you opt into
  • Operate optional investment advisory services through Finance.vet LLC when you choose that path
  • Send transactional messages (for example, account or appointment notifications)
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve the platform

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

  • Service providers — Supabase (auth, database, storage), Plaid (linked account data you authorize), hosting (Zeabur), email (Resend), and optional providers such as OpenAI (assistant features) or Daily.co (video calls), under contracts that limit use to providing services to us.
  • Advocates — assigned advocates may access information needed to help you use the platform, subject to role-based permissions.
  • Legal requirements — when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
  • Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with notice where required.

Plaid linked accounts

When you connect an institution through Plaid Link, Plaid's privacy policy and terms also apply to their handling of data during the linking process. We request read-only financial data (balances, holdings, liabilities) to populate your plan — not payment initiation or fund movement.

Plaid access tokens are stored on our servers only, protected by row-level security, and are revoked when you disconnect or remove your data.

Retention and deletion

We retain your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. You may delete stored data at any time via Settings. We may retain limited logs or backups for security and legal compliance for a defined period before automatic purging.

Some advocate-created records may require separate coordination to update; contact your advocate or us at the email below.

Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encryption at rest through our cloud providers, row-level security on user data, and access controls described in our Information Security Policy. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; contact us if you believe your account has been compromised.

Children

Finance.vet is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
